Courtesy Of Class-1.com Athens may not figure on the WPPA Class One World Powerboat Championship when the 2008 calendar is chalked out later this year. Considering the severe lapses emanating from the local organizer at the season-opening Greek Grand Prix in June this year, the WPPA Council was unanimous in its decision to drop the venue for next season.

"We have already terminated the contract with the local organizer in Athens," Marco Sala, General Secretary of the International Offshore Teams Association (IOTA), told officials at the meeting on Thursday.

The organizers are facing a similar situation in Egypt, one of three new venues on the 2007 calendar of the WPPA. Egypt is debating whether to run their first-ever Class One race on an internal course - subject to dredging - or stick to an outer harbour course.

"We need to be more careful while choosing new venues in the future. We should not be making the same mistakes again," Hareb observed.
