Matteo took his first win in Class 1 in Oslo in 2004, his second in Trondheim the following year and with two podium finishes added European Champion to his impressive CV. His reputation as a world class throttleman stems from his experience in designing and building top flight powerboats - recently building a Class 3 catamaran for Team Qatar, in which he and Abdullah Al-Sulaiti won the World and Middle East Championships in 2006 and with Mohammed Al Nasser he won the GCC Championship earlier this year. He has been involved in powerboat racing for over 15 years and has achieved a string of successes with over 60 race wins in various classes. His successes include winning the 1990 Class 3, 6litre Italian Championship and the 1991 Class 3, 6litre European Championship. His first world title came in 1997, lifting the Class 2 world crown with Ken Thorne in Argentina. He runs Lecco-based Nicolini Offshore with his brother Luca.
