Pertti made his Class 1 debut this year following a successful career competing in the F1 World Powerboat Championship. He made his powerboat racing debut in 1989 in Formula 4, finishing second in the Finnish Championship in 1991 and third in the World Championship in 1992. In 1994 he joined the F1 circuit and the DAC F1 Team alongside Guido Cappellini two years later, finishing second in the World Championship in 1996 and again the following year, also taking second in the European Championship. Pertti set up his own team in 1998 winning his first F1 race in Moscow, finishing third in the World Championship a year later. He is also a formidable skier and started racing slalom and downhill in1973 and in 1982 took up Speed Skiing setting the world speed record of 206.19Kmh in 1985, winning the World Cup the same year and the Finnish Championship a year later.
