Bjorn made his powerboat racing debut in 1994 in the USA, winning his first race in Jacksonville with American throttleman, Jim Dyke. In 1996 he formed Class 1's most successful partnership with Steve Curtis as his throttleman.
The pair took their first win in Class 1 in 1997 and went on to win 26 Grands Prix, the World Championship four times (1998, 2002, 2003, 2004), the European Championship three times (1998, 2002, 2003), the Middle East Championship twice (2003, 2004) and the Pole Position Championship four times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004).
At the end of the 2004 season Bjorn went into retirement and sold the Spirit of Norway team to Bard Eker, however 2006 saw Bjorn back at the helm of Spirit of Norway having stated that he missed racing and the news that Bard Eker wanted to concentrate on his businesses. In his comeback season he and Steve Curtis took all 4 Class 1 titles.
